Re-Line rethinks the traditional side table by integrating a dedicated place for books into its structure. Designed for people who enjoy living with books rather than storing them away, it offers a surface for everyday use while allowing books to remain visible as part of the living space. Originally introduced in 2017, the project was revisited in 2025 with a refined tabletop that strengthens both its functionality and visual identity.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Re-Line began with a simple observation: books often accompany everyday life long before they return to a bookshelf. While reading, they are placed beside a chair, on a coffee table or left open between chapters. Rather than treating these moments as temporary, the project transforms them into the foundation of the design.

A continuous curved metal element forms both the structural support of the table and an integrated display for books. Instead of introducing an additional storage component, the same structural gesture naturally creates a place where books can rest, remain visible and stay within easy reach. Structure and function are resolved through a single uninterrupted line.

First designed in 2017 and exhibited during Paris Design Week 2018 as part of the Le OFF exhibition, Re-Line was revisited in 2025. The redesign introduces a gently sculpted tabletop whose flowing profile creates a subtle visual dialogue with the curved steel structure below. Rather than changing the concept, this refinement reinforces the original idea while giving the object a warmer and more expressive presence.

The project explores the relationship between furniture and reading habits. A book is treated not only as something to be stored after reading, but as an object that continues to shape the atmosphere of a space. Whether open, recently read or waiting for the next chapter, it becomes part of the composition instead of disappearing into a shelf.

Beyond its practical function, Re-Line is conceived as a sculptural object. Its silhouette changes from different viewpoints, allowing the continuous line of the structure to define the character of the piece even when no book is displayed. Designed with longevity in mind, it combines honest construction, restrained detailing and everyday functionality into a timeless piece of furniture.
